Call for Submissions — Cornell International Affairs Review Fall 2023

The Cornell International Affairs Review is now seeking manuscript submissions for our Fall 2023 issue. We are a student-run, peer-reviewed, and biannually published academic journal at Cornell University dedicated to publishing undergraduate, postgraduate, and expert scholarship on contemporary international affairs.

The Review seeks to curate papers that present original research and demonstrate novel arguments or interpretive approaches. Papers should preferably address events and trends that are not well-established in current scholarship, yet have immediate global relevance and engage a broader and more diverse audience beyond the traditional academic sphere. We welcome submissions from any relevant field of study and particularly encourage papers that seek to address historically underrepresented demographics, as well as lesser-studied regions, trends, and events. We also heavily encourage the submission of papers that utilize non-English language secondary scholarship or primary source research.

Please read our submission requirements on our website before submitting, or see the attached document. Manuscripts must, among other things, be original research papers between 8,000 to 15,000 words in length and written in English, and pertain to an aspect of contemporary international affairs and international relations without substantially addressing current events. Our final submission deadline is September 22nd, 2023. Note that papers that do not comply with the requirements will be summarily rejected. We look forward to receiving and reviewing your submission.

John Quincy Adams Society: THE MARCELLUS POLICY FELLOWSHIP

The John Quincy Adams Society has developed the Marcellus Policy Fellowship to help the next generation of U.S. foreign policy leaders follow in young JQA’s footsteps. By combining knowledge of foreign policy, the craft of effective policy writing, and the ability to publicize his ideas, Adams launched a career shaping U.S. statecraft. The Marcellus Policy Fellowship does the same, helping our fellows develop the ideas and skills necessary to guide American foreign policy in the twenty-first century.

Over the course of several months, Marcellus Policy Fellows wrestle with ideas that can animate a prudent foreign policy. They hone their writing skills under expert guidance, crafting a detailed policy paper and a related policy memorandum and op-ed. All this strengthens their candidacy for roles in an increasingly competitive foreign policy career space.

The Society selects 8-12 Fellows for each of two cohorts a year. The Fellowship is open to current students (graduate and undergraduate) as well as those with 0-2 years of employment in the foreign policy space. (Internships and paid internships do not count against the two-year limit, nor does any amount of prior work in other fields. For roles that only partially deal with foreign policy, only the portion of time spent on foreign policy counts against the limit. Military service counts against the limit only in roles in which the servicemember’s daily duties required using extensive knowledge of foreign policy [such as FAOs or some intelligence roles].) The Fellowship is for those who are in, are pursuing, or intend to pursue in the near future a career shaping U.S. national security policy in fields like government service, the media, academia, think tanks, advocacy, and so forth. U.S. citizenship is not required. Fellows receive a $750 stipend. Sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7-8 PM ET via Zoom.

Applications for the Fall 2023 cohort are open here. Applications will be accepted through August 13. If you have any questions about the Fellowship, contact A. J. Manuzzi via email.
