Call for Manuscripts: Cornell International Affairs Review

The Cornell International Affairs Review, a student-run journal published biannually at Cornell University, aims to publish academic essays that contribute to our collective understanding of global issues in the contemporary world—from their historical roots in the past to policy solutions in the present. Previous submissions have dealt with topics ranging from economic development in the Maghreb region in Africa (Volume 3, Issue 2), to the impact of Islamic banking in GCC countries (Volume 6, Issue 1), to examining ethnic return migrants in Japan and Korea (Volume 10, Issue 2). Contributors to the journal have included professors, foreign service officials, and policy experts, as well as talented postgraduate and undergraduate students from institutions of higher education across the world.

The journal is in search of manuscripts for our Spring 2019 publication. The submission guidelines are attached here. Submissions should be sent to editor.ciar@gmail.com before the final submission deadline on February 10, 2019. Manuscripts received before the early submission deadline on January 27, 2019 will receive priority consideration.

The free webinar entitled The Art of Effective Leadership: Understanding the Role of Integrity and Humility, will be held on January 16th, 4-5pm Eastern Time. The panelists will engage in honest, in-depth discussion about integrity and humility in leadership, and about how to cultivate leadership skills that are applicable across settings. This webinar is ideal for students and professionals interested in global health and social entrepreneurship.

The live webinar will be recorded, and as long as you register, you will automatically receive a link to the webinar recording when it becomes available. Rustic Pathways Program Leader Positions Open

Rangel International Affairs Summer Program for Undergrads

The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program is now accepting applications for the 2019 Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program at www.rangelprogram.org!

Are you interested in a career in international affairs?

The Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program is a six-week program at Howard University that helps prepare undergraduate students for careers in international affairs.

Students learned about different career paths, both inside and outside of government, with an emphasis on careers in the U.S. Department of State.  They hone professional skills needed to be competitive for and succeed in careers of international service.  It includes two for-credit academic courses, a professional writing seminar, visits and meetings with foreign affairs professionals in a wide range of government and non-governmental organizations, and professional development activities. It pays for tuition, room, board, and transportation and provides a stipend. The program will run from mid-June until late July.

Eligibility requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • A comprehensive GPA of at least 3.2
  • Full-time undergraduate student status with at least sophomore status at the time of the application deadline

The program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women   and those with financial need.  Applicants with any undergraduate major are welcome to apply.

The Rangel International Affairs Program is a U.S. Department of State program, administered by Howard University, that attracts and prepares young people for careers of international service.

Sigma Iota Rho – Call for Papers – 2019 Print Journal

Print Submissions
The Sigma Iota Rho Journal of International Relations is accepting article submissions from undergraduate students for its 2019 print issue.

Submission Rules

  • Authors must be current students
  • Articles must be original and previously unpublished
  • Articles must be between 2,000 and 6,000 words in length
  • Relevant article include research and findings in topics such as economics, political science, history, and area studies
  • Citations must be completed according to the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th Edition
  • Articles may include charts, graphs, or other pertinent illustrations

Submission Guidelines

  • Submit in Microsoft Word .docx format with 1″ margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, and double-space
  • A front cover paper must list: name, email, telephone number, university, and the title of the article
  • Submissions must include a title, a 200-word abstract, and a brief biography of the author

The Sigma Iota Rho (SIR) Journal of International Relations is an undergraduate journal of international studies housed in the Library of Congress. The Journal has a circulation of over 3,000 copies, which are distributed to over 185 undergraduate international relations programs and APSIA graduate international relations schools. Each edition includes a featured article by a leading voice in international relations; previous headliners have included Vice President Joe Biden, President George W. Bush, Sec. Madeline Albright, and Sec. Henry Kissinger.

The deadline for submissions is Thursday, January 31, 2019.
