Engage Russia // Apply to the Stanford U.S.-Russia Forum Today!

The Stanford U.S.-Russia Forum (SURF) is now accepting applications for its 2018-19 program.
SURF is a platform for Russian and American university students to address the most pressing issues our nations face today. In the fall, participants attend a week-long conference in Russia, conduct collaborative research in working groups over the academic year, and ultimately present their work at a capstone conference at Stanford University and Washington D.C. in the spring. The working group format fosters consensus-building and leverages a cooperation-based approach to produce innovative solutions. Some examples of research topics include nuclear affairs, entrepreneurship, space exploration, climate and environment, business and economics, healthcare, the arctic, energy geopolitics, security, and many more,
SURF welcomes applications from graduate and undergraduate students in all academic disciplines and majors, regardless of prior exposure to Russia. Recent graduates and young professionals will also be considered. Our program will cover most expenses, including housing and local transportation. Participants are responsible for other expenses including flight and visa costs. There is no registration or participation fee for our program.

There are two deadlines: early decision ends May 31st at 23:59 PT and the application will fully close at June 28th at 23:59 PT. Applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis.

This August, Kosovo International Summer Academy (KSA) will organize its 6th edition (Part II) in Prishtina, Kosovo, with a special focus on “Peace building in post-conflict areas – Diplomacy, Leadership and Negotiations”, that will be realized by Kosovo Center for Diplomacy.
The Kosovo International Summer Academy will be welcoming distinguished professors from the world’s most prestigious universities, diplomats, high-ranking officials, and representatives of civic society, to teach courses and deliver speeches on:

Program Features

Our Staff is working intensively to make sure that high-ranking officials of Kosovo, including President of Kosovo, Government and Parliament officials, and representatives of diplomatic missions in Kosovo will address the participants.

After the completion of the program, participants are requested to write an essay about their experience in this program, or an article related to Kosovo. The best essay/article will be translated and published in a Kosovo daily newspaper, and two others will be posted in web-page of Kosovo Center of Diplomacy(Opinions section).
Awarded Certificates and ECTS

All participants and attendees who fulfill the requirements during the program will be awarded with certificates from Kosovo Center of Diplomacy and University College “Universum”.

Successful students will receive 6 ECTS credits of the course of ‘’War and Peace: Historical actors, structures and processes’’, issued by the University College “Universum” .

Excursions and Cultural Activities

Throughout your study-abroad experience in Kosovo you will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of excursions and cultural activities.

Call for Papers — Columbia University Journal of Politics & Society

Columbia University’s Journal of Politics and Society is currently accepting undergraduate student papers for publication in our Spring 2019 Journal. The Journal has consistently published multiple papers by U-M students in the past few years.

Columbia University’s Journal of Politics and Society is an academic journal of the social sciences and history, distributed nationally among academics on EBSCO, Google Scholar, and the Library of Congress. In its 29th year of publication, the Journal features exclusively undergraduate work on political and social issues. They are seeking outstanding student research papers from seminars, upper-level electives, independent study and thesis programs (typically between 20 and 50 pages, although all submissions will be considered).

Call for admission MIREES – 2018/19

MIREES is a joint program offered by the University of Bologna, Italy, together with the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas (Lithuania) and St. Petersburg State University (Russia).Enrolled students spend the first year in Forlì. In the second year a minimum of 5 months will be spent at one of the Partner Universities or, in particular cases, at other Mirees associated Universities (Universities of Zagreb, University of Ljubljana, Corvinus University, Comenius University). A mobility grant is offered to all enrolled students, thanks to Erasmus +  or the MIREES mobility scheme.

MIREES is taught entirely in English (120 ECTS). The curriculum offers interdisciplinary, in-depth knowledge of post-socialist countries in transition, new EU member states, and new East-European neighbor countries. Students develop language skills by learning one Eastern European language (3 levels of Russian, Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Bulgarian, Slovak; Hungarian and Lithuanian are available in the second year.

The degree programme is suited for students with a BA in Economics, Politics, International Relations, History, Languages and cultural studies in general as well as for prospective PhD students. It is designed to train analysts, area experts, consultants and mediators, to meet the needs of research institutes, the European Commission, international agencies, voluntary organizations and NGO’s, public administration, managers, corporations and banks active in the Baltic sea region, East-Central Europe and the Balkans. Most of our alumni have found employment in these fields or are attending doctorate programmes at prestigious academic institutions.

I would be extremely grateful if you could encourage interested students willing to connect language skills with an in-depth knowledge on the Baltic Sea region, Russia, Central Europe and the Balkans to consider applying.

The number of available places for the academic year 2018/2019 is 50, of which 20 for Non-EU candidates.
