JET Program Information Sessions

Applications for the 2022 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program are opening this week, and the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit is again hosting online information sessions via Zoom. These sessions are on October 13th, 20th, and 28th.

Join the information sessions in order to learn more about the JET Program, how to apply, and also to ask any questions they may have. I will be presenting along with two JET alumni during each session.

ISF Congressional Policy Internship

Islamic Scholarship Fund Interns spend a semester on Capitol Hill working for a member of Congress where they will observe the legislative process at the federal level, develop research skills related to public policy, and assist full-time staff with their duties. The Program aims to expose American Muslim students to the privileges and responsibilities of working in the halls of Capitol Hill and inspire a new generation of American Muslim policymakers. Participants receive a monthly stipend. The internship also pays for housing. Candidates should be active member of the Muslim community; enrolled at an accredited university in the US or graduated within the last year; majoring in an ISF supported major; minimum 3.0 GPA, US citizen, permanent resident or a DACA recipient, incoming junior-senior, a commitment to policy-making and public service.

The Charles B. Rangel Fellowship is a U.S. Department of State program created to attract diverse talent to its Foreign Service. Gilman Scholarship for Virtual and In Person Study Abroad

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic competitiveness. Cybersecurity Talent Initiative
 
The Cybersecurity Talent Initiative is a public-private partnership aimed at recruiting and training a world-class cybersecurity workforce to federal agencies.  The program is a selective opportunity for students in cybersecurity-related fields to gain vital public and private sector work experience and even receive up to $75,000, inclusive of tax, in student loan assistance.  Participants selected for the program will be guaranteed a two-year placement at a federal agency with cybersecurity needs.  Students in undergraduate degree programs in a cybersecurity-related field, such as computer science, engineering, information systems, and mathematics are ideal candidates for this program.

Call for Undergraduate Submissions to Juhood Volume 4, Issue 1

Juhood Journal is an undergraduate journal of Middle East Studies based at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The editorial team curates an interdisciplinary publication of academic writing related to MENA+ which is issued biannually in print and online.

Juhood Journal’s editorial board collaborates closely with selected authors to critique, edit, and strengthen their work for publication to a global audience. While they primarily look to publish timely, well-written, and well-researched work from undergraduate students, they are also particularly interested in work that is provocative, fresh, and seeks to intervene in hegemonic narratives (be they historical, political, cultural, etc.) about MENA+. 

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Submissions should be no less than 8 pages, no more than 25 double-spaced pages, and can be written in either English or Arabic. 
  2. Chicago-style with endnotes is preferred for citations (we accept all citation styles and are willing to work with authors on this).
  3. Submissions should be sent to juhoodmagazine@gmail.com or submitted through our website’s submissions tab by October 6th, 2021.

Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Graduate Fellowship

The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Program is now accepting applications to the 2022 Graduate Fellowship. The Fellowship is a US Department of State program that seeks to attract and prepare outstanding young people who represent US ethnic, gender, social, and geographic diversity and have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the US Department of State. To be eligible to participate, candidates must be a US citizen and seek admission to a two-year, full-time, on-campus, master’s degree program at a US-based graduate institution to begin in the Fall of 2022 in an academic field relevant to the work of the Foreign Service. 

ISF Congressional Policy Internship

Islamic Scholarship Fund Interns spend a semester on Capitol Hill working for a member of Congress where they will observe the legislative process at the federal level, develop research skills related to public policy, and assist full-time staff with their duties. The Program aims to expose American Muslim students to the privileges and responsibilities of working in the halls of Capitol Hill and inspire a new generation of American Muslim policymakers. Participants receive a monthly stipend. The internship also pays for housing. Candidates should be active member of the Muslim community; enrolled at an accredited university in the US or graduated within the last year; majoring in an ISF supported major; minimum 3.0 GPA, US citizen, permanent resident or a DACA recipient, incoming junior-senior, a commitment to policy-making and public service.

Gilman Scholarship for Virtual and In Person Study Abroad

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic competitiveness. The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to US citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Congressional Internship Program (CIP) provides promising Latino undergraduates of any major a paid placement in a congressional office for a period of 12 weeks (Spring / Fall) or 10 weeks (Summer). The Alexander Hamilton Society (AHS) is thrilled to announce that it will be hosting Dr. Michael Rubin at the University of Michigan. Michael Rubin is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. He has worked in the Pentagon and for the Naval Postgraduate School, written some books about Iran, including “Dancing with the Devil: The Perils of Engaging Rogue Regimes” and “Into the Shadows: Radical Vigilantes in Khatami’s Iran,” and has lived across the Middle East. This event will dive into U.S. foreign policy in the post-Trump world, specifically as it pertains to the Middle East, and the most prudent approaches to international affairs in the upcoming years forward.
