Do you want to learn more about the Taiwan Strait Issue? Are you interested in meeting people from China, Taiwan and the United States? Are you an open-minded individual who is prepared to engage in an intellectually stimulating dialogue with people from all sides of the issue? If you answered “yes” to all three questions, then you are ready to apply to 2017 Brown University Strait Talk Symposium, held at Brown University from Thursday, October 19, 2017 to Thursday, October 26, 2017!
Strait Talk is a nonpartisan, youth-run organization that exists to foster peaceful progress on the Taiwan Strait issue through educating, connecting, and empowering young leaders from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the United States. Currently in its twelfth year, Brown University Strait Talk has brought together more than 250 Chinese, Taiwanese, and Americans to learn about and take action on the cross-Strait issue. The symposium has inspired many delegates to go on to initiate programs and activities that promote a peaceful cross-Strait future in their hometowns and around the world.
The week-long symposium will bring together 15 delegates from Taiwan, the US and China to engage in over 35 hours of constructive dialogue sessions as well as conflict resolution workshops to come up with feasible proposals for a sustainable cross-Strait future. Prominent speakers and professors from different US universities and think tanks will also meet and speak with the delegates and discuss cross-Strait issues in various panels throughout the week. At the end of the week, delegates will have the chance to discuss and present their proposals.
We hope to recruit interested students or young professionals (ages 18-32) to apply as part of the American, Chinese and Taiwanese delegations to the symposium. Application forms and additional information can be found on the website: straittalkbrown.com. Should you have any questions, please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org. The application deadline is August 1, 2017 at 11:59 EST.
