The China Enterprise Programme offers a rare opportunity for students to gain an overview of China’s political landscape. Students will engage in debates and discussions about China’s economic reforms, policy experimentation, stability maintenance strategies as well as China’s relationship with the US, South China Sea, and across continental Africa.
Students will take tailored Mandarin classes every morning and will undergo a business challenge, an immersive experience that has been extremely rewarding for young entrepreneurs as well as those students looking to launch their career in the professional services industry.
During this summer programme, we will visit both local Chinese firms and MNCs based in Shanghai. Students will have opportunities to ask in-depth questions about market entry strategies, key policy-related challenges, and personal career development.
One of the highlights for last year’s students was the visit to Hangzhou, an ancient historical Chinese city, for a weekend away and an opportunity to explore the rest of China. Overall, the programme offers many opportunities for students to interact and network with professionals, expats and Chinese entrepreneurs.
The China Enterprise Summer Programme 2016 received overwhelmingly positive feedback, and we are looking to diversify student representation this year. This is a great summer filler for students to enhance their global perspectives and place their academic understanding of comparative politics, literature and culture into the context of China.
We are looking for students studying international studies, economics and political science at the University of Michigan, especially those who are particularly interested in modern Chinese culture, Chinese economic policies and China’s role in the contemporary international system.
