ELI Conversation Circles – Summer 2016

Are you looking for something fun and different to do this summer? Interested in meeting new people from around the world? Then consider facilitating an ELI Conversation Circle.

For over 25 years, ELI’s Conversation Circles have been bringing together a group of international students with a volunteer native-English speaking facilitator for informal conversation and intercultural exchange.

All current U-M students, faculty, and staff are invited to volunteer to facilitate a Conversation Circle. No previous experience is required. You just need just be a native or near-native speaker of English and willing to commit to spending an hour a week with a group of international students at a time and place of your choosing.

Facilitating a Conversation Circle is a great way to:

  • gain intercultural experience
  • strengthen leadership and relationship-building skills
  • help international students participate more fully in the life of the university
  • contribute to a more positive campus climate
  • have fun!

Here are the details:

Summer 2016 Conversation Circles run for six weeks:
July 5 – August 14

Facilitator registration is open:
June 15 – 23

First-time facilitators are required to attend one of these orientation sessions:

  • Monday, June 27, 4:00 – 5:00 pm
  • Tuesday, June 28, 12:00 – 1:00 pm
  • Tuesday, June 28, 12:00 – 1:00 pm
