University of Michigan English Language Institute (ELI)Conversation Circles Program

University of Michigan English Language Institute (ELI)Conversation Circles Program

Fall 2015

Are you looking for a fun and different way to get involved with life on campus? Interested in meeting new people from around the world? Then consider facilitating an ELI Conversation Circle.

For over 25 years, ELI’s Conversation Circles have been bringing together a group of international students with a volunteer native-English speaking facilitator for informal conversation and intercultural exchange.

All current U-M students, faculty, and staff are invited to volunteer to facilitate a Conversation Circle. No previous experience is required. You just need just be a native or near-native speaker of English and willing to commit to spending an hour a week with a group of international students at a time and place of your choosing.

Facilitating a Conversation Circle is a great way to:

  • gain intercultural experience

  • strengthen leadership and relationship-building skills

  • help international students participate more fully in the life of the university

  • contribute to a more positive campus climate

  • have fun!

Here are the details:

Fall 2015 Conversation Circles run for ten weeks:

October 5  December 11

Facilitator registration is open:

September 14  25
